What’s the BUZZZZ from Booster Club?

We were as busy as bees at our first meeting on September 3, 2009.  There were 16 people in attendance.

Our fall fundraiser was a great success!  We should clear a little over $6,000.00!  This is truly an amazing feat due to the economy.  Thanks to all the students and parents who helped us out.  It was moved by Julie and seconded by Leslie that we pay for the merchandise when we send in our order.  This allows for an extra 1% profit.

This year some fundraisers will last all year.  Box Tops for Education will be collected every quarter from homeroom teachers.  The teacher with the most box tops will receive $25.00 to use for books or items decided by the class.  Last year we raised $900.00; our goal is $1,500.00 this year.  Let’s all stay busy collecting Box Tops to help raise money.   The Papa John’s fundraiser is the second Thursday of every month.  Winning the Hy-Vee Smiles program is another way to raise money for the school and win a computer for your child or children.  We are asking everyone to sign up at least once a week to enhance our chances.

Mr. Schuldt completed a poll last year asking students and staff about a possible mascot change.  The poll showed that the majority were open to the change.  We will now be called the Teddy Roosevelt Junior Jackets.  The new spirit wear will be available soon after we have an official school kick-off!

Our family events will be changing this year.  Parents and staff members, Joan Crampton, Ann Goldapp, Deb Malterer, Leslie Wilson, and Julie Severne will coordinate these events.  They will notify the school community when the dates and activities have been set.

This year’s YEARBOOK will be under the supervision of Winter Boomershine.  It was moved by Tom Boomershine, and seconded by Ann Goldapp that $400.00 be used to purchase two digital cameras to be used at school to capture the everyday life.

We are looking for food donations for Staff Appreciation.  Please contact Winter Boomershine at 712-352-0360 if you can help.  We are looking for simple snacks for the September 21st appreciation day.  On October 26th we are asking for simple supper items to help the staff eat a quick dinner between conferences.

A Booster Club By-Laws committee was formed to look over the by-laws for changes.  The committee will submit a report at the November meeting.

In honor of Teddy Roosevelt’s birthday, which will also coincide with Just Say No To Drugs week, Booster Club will provide Teddy Grahams and juice to celebrate.  It was moved by Julie and seconded by Anne to buy the treats.

On November 17th, Roosevelt will host an open-house in honor of the Council Bluffs School’s 150 years of service.  We are looking for volunteers and alumni to participate in the event.

That’s the “bee’s wax” from the Booster Club.

Many students at Roosevelt are learning about independent reading. We call it “read to self.” Here are a few students in Mrs. Malterer’s class reading to self. Enjoy!
